Description

Globular body with flattened base; cylindrical neck; With a face one loop handle, shoulder to neck. Plain. Contained feathers and ground nut.

Face-neck vessel. Narrow-necked jug with a globular body, cylindrical neck, rounded rim, 1 strap handle extending from the neck to the body, and a flat base. The vessel has a modeled and incised face on the neck with ears, eyes, nose, and mouth. There appears to be a burnished finish on the exterior. The vessel was likely fired in an oxidizing atmosphere as the ceramic paste is orange and tan in color. Fireclouding is present on the base. The catalogue number is written on the bottom of the base and black ink on the bottom of the base reads: "667."
