Description | Light wood. Carved in full relief with open spaces giving a filigree-like appearance. Motifs are curvilinear; only recognizable ones are several hands or wings, and a bird (hornbill?) at one end. Most of the elements have shallow surface areas carved out with the edges forming ridges; depressed areas and bird markings are painted red. All other surfaces are covered with white (lime) except for the bird's body which is black (charcoal). The whole piece is curved as if it were carved from the side of a fairly small tree. |
