Description | Red-lined paper wrapper used to distribute cakes for drinking with tea. (see 29-96-734A-D for cakes although from a different locale). From Kinkaku-ji temple (金閣寺) in Kyoto. The printed characters in the middle read: 金閣, 御, 袱. Handwritten at the top: "Kyoto Kin Ka Kugi". Handwritten at the bottom: "Tea + Cakes Kyoto 29.4.95". This corresponds to April 29, 1895 when it was collected in Japan. There is a number 9 in a circle in pencil as well. |
