Description | Book entitled "Opera" by Lucius Apuleius. Printed in Paris. 1688 copy of original work of 2nd c. CE. Apuleius was a writer and philosophical orator of the 2nd century CE. He is most famous for "The Metamorphoses", also know as the "Golden Ass", the only Latin known novel to have survived in its entirety. It is a fictional epic account of the comical adventures of young Lucius, who in his attempts to unravel the mysteries of witchcraft, is transformed into an ass. The other work of Apuleius incorporated into this 17th century volume is "The Apologia", Apuleius's speech defending himself against charges of magic. |
