Description | Sommerville: Onyx. Geta, twenty-fifth Emperor of Rome, brother of Caracalla, by whom he was assassinated A.D. 212. Greek and Roman Cameos, Case SS. Vermeule: Onyx. Cameo. (Unmounted) Bust of a young man to right, a chlamys about shoulders. Composition copied from Greek Imperial coin or medallion portraits of Antinoos, favorite of Hadrian. Sommerville identifies subject as "Geta" 25th emperor of Rome, brother of Caracolla, by whom he was assasinated in A.D. 212." 18th century. |
