Description | Woman's, huipil blouse made of polyester, shiny, ivory-colored ground cloth with a detailed, colorful yoke that fastens close around the neck. Yoke includes concentric stitched rows of narrow rickrack and wider rickrack trim in multiple hues including yellow, purple, black, hot pink, green, red and royal blue. Small pleats of tucking at neckline and at center yoke and one narrow frill near center of yoke. Outer edge of yoke is finished with fancy lace that integrates silver threads in a scalloped pattern. The ivory, polyester fabric includes a delicate overall pattern of floral bouquets, which may harken to the white gauze brocades made in the Coban region. This feature as well as the large size of the blouse suggest the huipil may have been made as a cofradia (religious society) garment. |
