Description | Bamboo tube, closed by septum at bottom, 2 cm. of which is painted black. Surface of tube is engraved in vertical zones, one of which is a grid representing twelve months by thirty days. Another wide zone includes Batak script (?) arranged in a star shape and two sets of five lines of script separated by a scorpion (?). Between these zones are five narrow zones of vertical script. The tube is accompanied by an interpretive sheet reprducing the calendar and explaining symbols for auspicious and inauspicious days. Small holes at the top (open) end suggest that the tube may have been worn suspended, as a amulet. |
