Description | Sommerville: Chalcedony. Homer. Greek and Roman Cameos, Case B. Vermeule: Chalcedony. Cameo. [unmounted]. Bearded bust of a man to left, wearing a cap. Sommerville identifies person as Homer and the design resembles that on the well-known coins of Cos. It also suggests the Renaissance Aristolle busts, based on the drawing of Cryaco of Cyriaco d'anconce made on island of Samothrace in the XV century. 17th Century? |
