Description | Sommerville: Chalcedony. A figure representing a Conquered City; also people in Bondage. Greek and Roman Cameos, Case C. Vermeule: Chalcedony. Cameo. (Unmounted, broken and repaired). A female seated to the left, in the dejected attitude used by the Romans to personify conquered cities and provinces. The figure recalls the well-known marble relief of the conquered Dacia (Romania) in the Palazzo dei Conservatori, Rome. Graeco-Roman. |
