Description | A long dress, made for the donor, with non-traditional design. The garment is embroidered in the regional manner called Phulkari or "flower work". Indians under British rule adapted their tailoring techniques to new fabrics and new styles of dress. The dress has a brown background with white, orange, pink, and yellow floral designs. Cross patterns run the length of the piece and along the sleeves. There is a motif that looks like the letter "K" in the middle of the sleeves and near the bottom of the dress. Blue squares outlined in various colors punctuate the floral designs. There is a zipper at the collar. |
