Description

Wooden Katsina doll. The face is bisected vertically into halves painted white and yellow. Cloud and plant symbols are painted above and below the eyes. The top of the head has feathers attached. An elaborate, tableta headdress is attached to the head painted black, green, white, yellow and red. The headdress has phallic and rainbow imagery. The body is painted black with a kilt painted over the waist. This figure is the Hemis (or Humis) Katsina. (Colton, H. 1959 #132, Wright, B., 1973 #214)
