Description

The Wari style vessels is a small jar for holding liquids. While showing use wear and missing a loop handle, the object is a classic example of Wari culture. The simple designs in the upper register are interpreted as “eye,” the “Andean cross” and/or “stars.” Wari culture is considered to represent an expansive state that used performance, theater, and feastings in an important ideological, economic, and political function. The vessel was probably used to distribute Andean maize beer at ceremonies and for the afterlife.
