Description | Round; straight sides; rim slightly inset and is a broad splint of cedar topped with braided edge; lid fits down over the rim and sides are then even. All warps of cedar bark. Most of bottom is plaited with cedar bark, being con-verted into plain twining with marsh(?) grass weft. Sides and lid are wrapped, twining of squaw grass over bark wefts. Designs on basket: 2 rows of red dyed squaw grass around bottom, and 3 motifs on sides in blackish- purple and yellow. Lid has 2 red bands around sides with concentric rings of black, natural, red, yellow and black center on top. Dyes may be native. |
