Description | The object is a Hoonah canoe paddle made and painted by Donald Starbard (Wak'eesh). It depicts a sea otter, once hunted out during the fur trade but now in abundance once again in the Hoonah homeland of Glacier Bay, on his back eating a clam/sun symbol on its stomach surrounded by kelp/seaweed. |
