Description | Bucchero, thrown and stamped. Ovoid body, rounded base. Convex lid with knob, grooved edge and tongues. Lid rest applied 0.010m from rim of bowl. Body stamped with ten horses with their riders walking right. Bearded riders hold reins and a short riding crop (?) in right hands. Lower body grooved. Fabric: Sandy dark brown to dark grey core, with flecks of mica (?) and white stone. Rough surface with tiny patches of black. Condition: Worn surface. Lower body streaked with white deposit. Over half lid rest and several body fragments missing. Technique: Both lid and vase thrown. Horses and riders stamped individually with one mold. Double outlines occur on three reliefs. And additional half of a horse impressed in between two complete reliefs. Slipped. Place of manufacture: Chiusi. Said to have been found south of Chiusi. |
