Description | The object is identified as a Hopi Early Morning Singer. The Kachina is carved painted wood. The figure wears a turquoise colored mask with red ears, green ruff of yarn, hair of black yarn, and colored cloud symbols on the cheeks. The figure wears a red cloth bandolier over yellow and turquoise body paint, a cloth cape or shoulder manta, a white cotton dance kilt, red and black sash belt, and embroidered sash that hangs at proper right side. Feathers are on the top and back of head. The figure holds green yarn (symbolizing evergreen boughs) in proper left (PL) hand, deer scapula rattle in proper right (PR) hand, and has black yarn tided on both legs and the proper right (PR) wrist.
