Description | The object is identified as a Hopi cloud, Tsakwyna Mana. The Kachina is carved painted wood with black face, skin, and hair, bright yellow eyes and mouth of painted leather, and painted turquoise earnings and necklace. She wears a black Pueblo style manta dress, an embroidered sash around her waist, a white cotton shoulder blanket with borders of red and black, and bare feet. A hole present in each hand suggests she once held items in her hands now missing. (In a separate bag is a wooden crook painted white.)A string for hanging is attached to the upper back. Paint colors: white, black, red, blue, green, brown, turquoise. |
