Description | The animal Kachina is a Hopi Deer Dancer. The wooden painted figure is attached to a wooden base and signed by the artist Aaron Fred. The figure wears a turquoise mask with black antlers and a carved ruff collar of evergreen boughs, a white long sleeved shirt, white embroidered dance kilt, and white rain sash belt with heavy fringe falling down the back, white crocheted leggings, red moccasins, turquoise arm bands, and turquoise bracelets at each wrist, and a black bandolier across the chest. The figure holds two dance sticks that serve as front legs. A paper label on the underside of the base reads "DEER." Three small brown and black feathers are attached at the crown of the head. |
