Description | Brown ware, face on neck and arms on body in low relief Face-neck narrow-necked jar/bottle (aríbalo, aryballos) with an ovate body, hyperboloid neck, rounded rim, 2 strap handles on the body, and a conical (aribaloid) base. There is a modeled face with eyes, ears, and nose on the neck with arms in relief on the body. There appears to be a burnished finish on the exterior. The vessel was likely fired in an oxidizing atmosphere with localized reduction as the ceramic paste is orange, black, buff, and gray in color. The catalogue number is written in black ink. Black ink on the bottom of the base reads: "3292." |
