Description

Pear-shaped bottle with white stripes, grooved

Narrow-necked jar/bottle with an ovate body, flaring neck, rounded rim, 2 strap handles on the body, and a rounded base. No molded/modeled additions. The vessel is shaped with grooves running down the sides. It is painted with white lines in the grooves and around the neck and handles. There appears to be a smoothed finish on the exterior. The vessel was likely fired in an oxidizing atmosphere with localized reduction as the ceramic paste is orange and gray in color. Fireclouding is present on the body. One side of the pot appears black and deformed, possibly from over-firing. The surface also appears porous, possibly from escaping gases. The catalogue number is written on the object in black ink. Black ink on the bottom of the base reads: "3133."
