Lute Fragments

Taus. Also known as Maur or Mayuri. Long-necked painted wooden instrument in the shape of a bird. Detachable head and beck of bird hooks into the bottom of the instrument's body. Thin membrane sounding surface. Twelve movable metal frets with instrument. Fifteen wooden pegs in wooden strip attached to side of the neck. Four wooden pegs in pegbox (two frontal, two lateral). Bird painted dark blue with red wings and designs and feathers in red, gold, and yellow. Gold paint with red flowers at top of instrument near the peg box. Ivory inlay around the neck. Ivory bridge and end buttons. Bow of lighter colored wood with black hair. Bow in good condition. Instrument in poor condition. Membrane resonator broken. Two side pegs missing, one top peg broken. Painted chipped. Both feet of bird broken.
