Description | Image of the wrathful Shingon Buddhist deity, Fudō 不動 “The Immovable”. Fudō is recognizable by his usual attributes: a sword in one hand, a snare in the other, and flames around his body. He accompanied by his servants Kongara and Seitaka. The text identifies this with the Shingon Buddhist temple Narita-san 成田山 Shinshō-ji 新勝寺, in Naraita, Chiba, Japan. This temple is dedicated is to Fudō. The inscription on the reverse refers to the goma 護摩 fire-offerings invoking Fudō that are performed at the temple. |
