Description | Wooden Katsina doll. The face is painted yellow with horizontal bands of green and red covering the mouth. The hair is painted black and tied into circular whorls on either side of the head. A band of red hair and string attaches the whorls to one another. The body is wrapped in a painted blanket with a painted dress underneath. This figure is likely the Hemis Maiden (Hemis Kachin Mana). (Colton, H. 1959 #133, Wright, B., 1973 #215) |
