Olpe. Incised curves, decorations of red and brown on buff. Light cream clay of fine texture. Shape: Short bevelled foot with flat bottom. Drop ovoid body. Narrow ledge at base of neck. Thick neck flaring to perpendicular lip. Rim wide and flaring. Protruding knob on either side of handle. Single strap handle at mid-shoulder. Decoration: Design paint brown with red and white paint added. Foot brown. Reserved zone at base decorated with 3 groups rounded vertical stripes (2 groups 6 stripes, 1 group 5 stripes), groups placed at intervals around base. Main decorative zone on belly of wide brown band with superimposed red and white stripes; red band flanked by narrower white bands on lower central, upper portions of frieze dividing it into 2 zones. Shoulder preserved except for area 0.03m wide painted brown either side of handle; superimposed white cross appears on either side of handle. 3 groups rounded brown vertical stripes ecorate shoulder frieze (2 groups of 7, 1 group of 6 stripes). Drip ledge and neck brown, lip brown. Rim brown 0.022m into interior. Handle brown. Incision to outline decorative motif of upper and lower belly friezes: concentric bands of overlapping. Semicircles drawn in single outline with aid of compass. White dots interspersed in circles. Intact.
