Description | See AF1726; and cf. Pub. Roy. Ethn. Mus. Leides Ser II, Ho. 2. (Congo Album) pl. 174 (1), of which the central panel has a similar arrangement of groups of cross-wise black stripes. The latter is said to be from the Lulongo River and would probably be from the Balolo. AF1 is ascribed, presumably by the collector, to "Ikundu". This looks like a place-name; if it is intended for a tribal name the shield must be an erratic, having travelled either to the S.W. Cameroons or to the region near Lakes Mweru and Bangweolo, in both of which very widely separated areas the tribal name Bakundu occurs. |
