Description | For form cf. 29-50-376. The "handle" is here much larger and rather definitely triangular. The intaglio decoration of the back of the handle forms a cross of which the lower member extends onto the "bowl" of the spoon. On the inner side of the "handle" proper is undecorated and its limit marked off from the bowl by the arms of a kind of tau-cross, the lower member runs down into the concavity of the bowl. The cross at the back is accompanied by subsidiary carving which gives to the whole the appearance of a bearded human mask. |
