Description | Wooden Katsina doll. The face is painted black with a white line bisecting it vertically. One ear is painted red and attached over a circular design with a cross in the center. A tuft of feathers is attached to the top of the head. The body is painted white, red, yellow and blue. An embroidered, cloth sash is tied around the waist. The figure holds its penis with both hands. This figure is the Hump-backed Flute Player (Kokopelli) Katsina. (Colton, H. 1959 #65, Wright, B., 1973 #109) |
