Description | Wooden Katsina doll. The face is bisected vertically by a black and white line into yellow and green halves. Bear tracks are painted on the cheeks. The mouth is a protruding snout with teeth painted on. Feathers are attached to the sides and top of the head. A cloth blanket with velvet-like edges is worn over the shoulders. The body is painted red, blue and yellow and a kilt is worn around the waist. This figure is the Bear (Hon) Katsina. (Colton, H. 1959 #87, Wright, B., 1973 #114) |
