Description

Depressed body, flaring rim, two vertical loop handles shoulder to rim, red molded clay pot with serpentine, dot and other relief ornamentation. Slightly painted on inner face of rim

Cooking pot (olla) with a globular body, flaring collar, flattened rim, 2 strap handles extending from the neck to the body, and a rounded base. The vessel has a red slip and white painted stripe and dot decorations. A design of snakes, dots, and a geometric pattern in relief on the body. The vessel appears to have been smoothed with a rotative movement on the exterior. The vessel was likely fired in an oxidizing atmosphere as the ceramic paste is orange in color. Fireclouding is present on the body. Evidence of usewear includes residue/accretion on the bottom. There is a resinous black accretion over the exterior base. The catalogue number is written on the object in black ink. Black ink on the bottom of the base reads: "31933."
