Description | Enormous wooden face, with frame, figure of bird on forehead. Jutting brows, conus shell eyes inlaid in round carved discs, flaring nostrils, grimacing mouth with many carved teeth. Rows of large interlocking points along sides and bottom of jaw, and inside bottom of frame. Cassowary feathers around frame, at bottom and sides. Twisted fiber with tassels in ears (three holes in each) and in nose (two holes). Two holes at top of frame,with peel knotted through. Mostly black, but with some red and white. |
