Description | Pear-shaped body, cylindrical neck, one vertical loop handle shoulder to neck. Red jug with face and white painting (whole figure indicated) Face-neck vessel. Narrow-necked jug with an Ovate body, cylindrical neck, rounded rim, 1 strap handle extending from the neck to the body, and a rounded base. The vessel has a red slip and a modeled/molded face with eyes, nose, mouth with teeth, and ear spools on the neck. The body is decorated with painted arms and legs with protruding modeled hands and feet. There appears to be a smoothed finish on the exterior. The vessel was likely fired in an oxidizing atmosphere as the ceramic paste is orange in color. Fireclouding is present on the body. There are possible textile impressions on the bottom of the base. The catalogue number is written in black ink. Black ink on the bottom of the base reads: "2759." |
