| Description | White barkcloth from Antiaris toxicaria tree (kumpe ipo') (kumpe = barkcloth, ipo' = Antiaris toxicaria) Formerly, quickly-made barkcloth to be used as towel, scarf, loincloth, etc. Not often made now, but widely produced during WWII when cloth was scarce. This type of bark cannot be seamed during production, so shape of bark cut is shape of cloth produced. Obtained from Tina Laura in Wuruwi on October 4, 1988. Newly made at collector's request. Some holes & tears because quickly made. |
