Description

The piece is #100 in Jason Garcia's series of “Tewa Tales of Suspense”. This is one tile from a set of two large tiles, which Jason said was meant to be like a “Double Fold” cover. Each piece is made from native clay, painted with native clay slips, and traditionally fired. Each piece is inspired by graphic novels and early comic book art and the Pueblo Revolt of 1680. The date on each of the two pieces “Pajogeri XXXIII” meaning Summer 2023. This tile has two Pueblo Warriors. One with a shield and one with a bow and arrow. In the background is a Pueblo church. On the bottom corner of each is “100” for issue number 100. In the sky are his signature clouds, which have become a signature of Jason’s art. The coloration on these pieces is striking with the clay showing through and the subtle sky. Note as well how the clouds in the background carry over from one tile to the next. Signed with Jason's Tewa name, Okuu Pin, which means Turtle Mountain.
