Description | Red ware. Incomplete. Painted with spotted zig-zag: red-white-black. Bowl with a globular body, no neck/collar, rounded rim, no handles, and a rounded base. No molded/modeled additions. The vessel is painted with a band of geometric zig-zag design around the body in white, black, and orange. There appears to be a burnished finish on the exterior and a smoothed finish on the interior. The vessel was likely fired in an oxidizing atmosphere as the ceramic paste is orange in color. Evidence of usewear includes staining. reddish staining on the bottom of base. The catalogue number is written on the interior of the rim. Black ink on the interior of rim reads: "2309A." |
