Description | Globular body, cylindrical neck with thickened rim; two vertical loop handles on body. Engraved. With a face applied on neck. Neck and body badly dented before baking. Face-neck vessel. Narrow-necked jar/bottle with a globular body, flaring neck, rounded rim, 2 strap handles on the body, and a flat base. The body has a large indentation in it and the neck is pushed in on one side. The vessel has a modeled face on the neck with eyes, nose, ears, and mouth. There is a geometric design on the neck in incised lines and punctate dots. There are traces of a red slip/paint. There appears to be a smoothed finish on the exterior. The vessel was likely fired in an oxidizing atmosphere as the ceramic paste is gray and orange in color. There are striations from smoothing tool on the exterior. The catalogue number is written on the bottom of the base and black ink on the bottom of the base reads: "291." |
