Description | A Hopi Katsina face mask with an elongated forehead. The mask itself is made from hide painted brown with multicolored zigzags on the cheeks and chin. A horizontal black line is painted through the eyes and the mouth. The mouth is somewhat tubular and made from cloth stuff with plant fiber. The nose is made from hide and is added on, resembling a human nose. A headdress is worn made from buttons, stones, flannel cloth, and hide in a layered design. A plume of dark feathers is attached at the top of the head. |
