Description | Pear-shaped mouth with cylindrical neck and one loop handle shoulder to neck, red jug with face on neck, figure indicated Face-neck vessel. Narrow-necked jug with an ovate body, cylindrical neck, rounded rim, 1 strap handle extending from the neck to the body, and a flat base. The vessel has a red slip and a modeled/molded face with ears, eyes, nose, mouth, and chin. Two projecting feet at the base with incised legs. The vessel was likely fired in an oxidizing atmosphere as the ceramic paste is orange in color. Fireclouding is present on the base. Evidence of usewear includes residue on the interior. The catalogue number is written on the object in black ink. Black ink on the bottom of the base reads: "2761." |
