Description | Pole with bar at right angle to a peg for a rice mill (82-7-291A,B). A peg fits into the beam on the top portion of the mill (82-7-291B). The handle at the opposite end of the pole is carved with indentations. This was used for the milling of rice in the first half of the 20th century in the village of Ban Chiang. It was two years old at the time of acquisition (1981). The family who owned it liked it because the rice it produced was sweeter than mechanical rice mills. This may be because it removes less bran. |
