Description

Veena. Long round wooden tube rests on two large gourds. Carved bird at one end with three ivory hooks for strings. Ivory faced brige just above bird. This endpiece attached to tube. Metal cap at each end of tube. Carved animal head at end opposite bird. Five lateral pegs ( three on one side , two on the other ) near animal head end of tube. Two small ivory pegs inside of tube as well. Fourteen movable wooden frets with metal edges. Gourds attached by carved five-lobed extensions of dark wood. Poor condition. Both gourds badly fragmented. Tube cracked. One carved wooden attachment to gourds broken. Bird end piece and bridge loose from tube. Strings and three pegs missing.
